Avon Town Council Sets Public Hearing for Fisher Farm Lease

At its next meeting in November, the Avon Town Council will hold a public hearing, as required by town charter, for Avon portion of the Fisher Farm lease.

In Farmington, the new tenants Roger and Isabelle Phillips have not signed the lease yet with the town for the portion of the land that holds the farm buildings.

While  previous tenant, Ron Simmons's Farmington lease expired in June and was not renewed, his lease with the town of Avon for the land containing his cornfields runs until Dec. 31.

The town of Avon has prepared a lease to reflect necessary changes to show the farmers, but formal negotiations haven't started at this time . If all goes as planned, they will sign between now and Dec. 31, Assistant Town Manager Steve Bartha said.

Town Manager Brandon Robertson said that the corn remaining on the field will be harvested by the farmer's contractor by the end of October or early November.

Both he and Bartha said that, as far as they know, Simmons' intent is to provide the corn for feed. The corn wasn't grown to be sold in a grocery store, according to Bartha.
