Avon resident Thomas Harrison had a surprise visitor Saturday morning.
A black bear took a stroll through his backyard on Briar Hill Road.
As of Aug. 27, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) reported there have been 718 bear sightings since Aug. 29, 2011.
Avon tied Burlington for the second highest amount of bear sightings reported over the past year – 55, according to DEEP's website.
That's only two shy of the town with the most bear sightings reported – Simsbury at 57.
