OTHER MAJOR EVENTS

Wednesday, Oct. 26

  • A follow-up conversation about the issues raised in the film, Race to Nowhere is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Avon High School cafeteria. To R.S.V.P, e-mail Susan Reitano Davey at srietano@aol.com.

Thursday, Oct. 27

  • The is hosting a Halloween party at 9 a.m. Thursday. You're never too old to trick-or-treat, so seniors are invited to come dressed in costumes. Cherry Brook Health Center in Collinsville is also involved in the event and is providing some candy. To sign up, call the senior center at 860-675-4355.
  • The Thursday Movie Matinee featured film this week is The Other Boleyn Girl. The movie starts at 1:30 p.m. at the senior center.

Saturday, Oct. 29

  • is running a pet food drive at the Avon Petco from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Toys, food, treats and monetary donations will be accepted. For more information, call Gifts of Love at 860-676-2323
  • Avon Volunteer Fire Department's Annual Halloween Parade for pre-school to fifth grade students is scheduled to go from 10 a.m. to noon at . There will be prizes, games and refreshments at the event and attendees are invited to dress in costume. Tickets cost $6 each and must be ordered in advance. Only checks, not credit cards, are accepted for payment. 
  • The auxiliary of the is holding its annual Italian Food Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fresh pasta, sauce,  casseroles and desserts will be available for purchase. The Cafe Savoy and its bar will also be open until 1:30 p.m., offering a menu of meatball or sausage grinders, paninis, Abruzzi chicken soup and beverages. The event will take place at Prince Thomas of Savoy headquarters at 32 Old Farms Rd. 

Sunday, Oct. 30

  • Gifts of Love continues its pet food drive at Petco on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
