[UPDATE] Avon Bans Trick-or-Treating

It looks like this Halloween will be Hallowon't.

"The town of Avon has put a ban on trick-or-treating," said an emergency alert the town of Avon sent to people signed up for emergency notifications on www.ctalert.gov.

Avon town officials said it is too dangerous to be out because downed trees and power lines. Some of the lines on the ground could be live. Houses and street lights also won't be lit due to the power outage.

"There should be no trick-or-treating," Town Manager Brandon Robertson said.

Connecticut Light & Power said that if people in other parts of the state do decide to go trick-or-treating in the state, they should be cautious.

"With today being Halloween, CL&P is strongly advising residents to accompany their children while trick or treating to help them avoid any potentially dangerous situation," CL&P wrote in a press release. "Be on the watch for downed lines that may be unseen and obscured by fallen limbs or snow."

Some Connecticut towns, like Naugatuck, are advising residents to postpone Halloween until Saturday, Nov. 5, but Robertson said that Avon does not have a backup plan at this time for trick-or-treating.
