Collinsville Resident Hosts State of the Union Gathering

Anthony Mecca says he supports president’s vision.

Collinsville resident Anthony Mecca was one of many Barack Obama supporters who hosted a State of the Union gathering Tuesday night.

Although a few more had planned to attend, Mecca ended up with three guests for the event dubbed "Collinsville for Obama."

But despite the small crowd, the participants said it was a great opportunity and event, especially since none had met before Tuesday.

"It's interesting to meet people who are involved in politics," said Bob Senk of Burlington.

Senk, who is also involved in Burlington politics, said he found the president's speech interesting and feels Obama has accomplished many things and could do so much more with the cooperation of Congress.

Mecca said the biggest thing he took from Obama's speech was a sense of "fairness doctrine."

"Things should be fair for everybody," he said. "I think we're going to hear a lot more of that."

Mecca said he is a past contributor and received an e-mail about from the campaign about hosting an event. While he has been politically involved and done some campaigning for Congressman Chris Murphy, Mecca said Tuesday was the most active thing he has done so far.

“This will be my most active involvement to date,” he said prior to the event.

He also said he wants to help the president.

"I support the president’s vision for the direction of the country,” Mecca said.

You support a President who is stripping away our freedom's and liberties? I don't understand. You support a president who is trying to imitate European economonies? Again I don't understand....You support a President who wants the people to rely on government help? I don't understand. You don't enjoy your freedom of speech, freedom from government interferance in your personal goals, freedom of religion, etc. etc. etc. You should move to Europe, Afghanistan, China, Canada or elsewhere and realize what it's like to have government in total control of your life and liberties. Good luck when he dicides which job you can work at the rest of your days on this planet.

What I don't understand is how anyone can support a president who eagerly signed into law the Indefinite Detention bill. ALL freedom loving walks of life should viciously oppose this bill (now law thanks to Obama). Even if you supported Obama thinking he would end the wars overseas that was a LIE. He has EXPANDED the wars overseas, and while he may have changed the "name" of our troops in Iraq, and exchanged drones for soldiers, and "private contractors" for soldiers, our presence is VERY well known and VERY hated globally. Obama is nothing more than BUSH 2.0. He has continued nearly every single thing that BUSH put into place (the scumbag that Bush was). Ron Paul is the only answer for an educated people. Sadly the masses are very uneducated and clueless when it comes to such simple concepts as the federal reserve, the debt, and our fiat monetary system. Ron Paul 2012, it may not be too late.

Which freedoms and liberties is Obama stripping away? I can only think of one - our right to go without health insurance and demand that we be treated by a hospital and then not pay for it. And what is wrong with European economies? Many have very high income, great social stability, better social and economic mobility, great health outcomes, and lower unemployment than we do.

Freedoms and Liberties that Obama is stripping away? There's no sense in mentioning them. If I mention anything you will call me a liar and say it is for my own good anyway. Then you will call me a conspiracy theorist, racist, and call me names like "tea bagger" despite the fact that the tea party movement was hi jacked by neo-cons in the establishment and it consists of a band of zombie establishment followers now. What has rights has Obama taken away? Have you heard of the Indefinite Detention bill? Have you seen anything about it? Oh yes that's right I'm a conspiracy theorist! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foUGmucm8dM&feature=related If you can't connect the dots, there's no saving you.
