Council to Discuss Possible Thompson Road Recreational Facility

The Avon Town Council members will also be sworn into their new term at their Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 meeting.

The Avon Town Council will discuss possible plans for a new athletic facility on Thompson Road at its Thursday meeting.

Interest in a 2007 proposal to put the complex on the vacant town-owned M.H. Rhodes property down the street from Thompson Brook School resurfaced for informal discussion last fall

Glenn Marston will give the council "an overview of where we are in the process, and what we need to do to move forward if we want to," Town Council Chairman Mark Zacchio said.

He said that "there is some interest in town around moving the athletic facility forward sooner than later, and they are willing to do some fund raising to help us accomplish that." The council wishes to fully understand what the facility will look like and the cost associated with it before making a decision, Zacchio said.

The Town Council members will also be sworn into their new terms at the start of the Jan. 9, 2014 meeting at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting will close with an executive session on a pending claim or possible litigation and a land acquisition and real estate item.
