CREC Magnet School Public Hearing Pushed to Nov. 22

P&Z meeting canceled due to the power outages.

The discussion of building a magnet school on the property on Waterville Road has been a stormy one, some for and some against, and now it is a storm that is delaying the public hearing for the Capitol Regional Education Council's application even further.

The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday night is canceled due to the massive power outages, which include the , where the meeting was scheduled to take place Tuesday due to the topic's popularity.

Commission members will review the site plan for the proposed relocation of the Reggio Magnet School of the Arts at its Nov. 22 meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the senior center. They also need to vote on the special exception application to allow a school on an additional 1.4 acres the education council added to its purchase-sale agreement with landowner Dr. Roy Beebe. The smaller plot was from a commercial zone to an RU2A residential zone in September.

That means the public hearing is continued to that date. The commission may vote on the two remaining components of the application together, but it is not definite that they will vote at the meeting.

The Reggio Magnet School of the Arts is located at 150 Fisher Drive and educates pre-kindergarten to second grade students. The education council wants to expand it to fifth grade.
