Full House at the Avon Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting

Residents come to hear about the CREC zone change application, new village center zone and other public hearing items.

It was hard to find a parking spot at Town Hall or open seat in the Selectman's Chamber, as Avon residents and applicants filled the room at the Avon Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

What were the main public hearing items on the agenda?

  • Avon Self Storage, LLC/Avon Dreamer, LLC is requesting a special exception to Section VI.H.3.k. of the Avon Zoning Regulations for permission to have a storage facility on its 190 and 230 Old Farms Rd. parcels and fill and regrade the floodplain. This was continued from the May 17 meeting. Avon Self Storage is looking to explan.
  • The hearing for the proposed amendment to the zoning regulations to create a village center zone was continued from the previous meeting. Town Planner Steve Kushner said that there is a public hearing on June 28 for the proposed plan of conservation and development for a possible future Avon Town Center, so the Planning and Zoning Commission will likely wait until after the hearing to vote on adopting the new zone.
  • The Capitol Region Education Council is looking to build and relocate the Avon Reggio Magnet School for the Arts to the land next to the Avon Cider Mill on Waterville Road. There will be a public hearing pertaining to an amendment in lot coverage in the RU2A Zone.
