Meet the Candidate: Jay Spivak

Jay Spivak is an incumbent Democrat running for the Avon Board of Education.

Jay Spivak is seeking re-election to the Board of Education. During his first term, the board has provided better communication and transparency with the entire community.  The relationship among the town boards and town residents during recent budget seasons was the best we have experienced in years.  Jay is visible and approachable to everyone in Avon.  As chair of the newly formed Alternative Resources Committee, he works with the administrators to research alternative revenue sources.  As a member of the Finance Committee, he works to provide efficiency in the use of our tax dollars.  Jay works to ensure that Avon Public Schools continue to provide an excellent education to all students while maintaining a responsible budget.

Jay has been an Avon resident for over 15 years.  He and his wife, Julie, have three children, all of whom attend Avon Public Schools.  Jay is active in many community activities, having coached soccer, basketball, baseball and lacrosse in town.  He has also served on the board of the March of Dimes for more than ten years.  He is the Treasurer of Avon Youth Lacrosse.  Jay owns an investment management firm, Spivak Asset Management, LLC which is located in Avon.  He grew up in Simsbury and graduated from Simsbury High School.  Jay has spent most of his life in the Farmington Valley.  He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, holding degrees from both the Wharton School of Business and the School of Engineering and Applied Science.  Jay has served on the Board of Education since 2010.  He is the Chair of the Alternative Resources Committee and also serves on the Capital Budget, Budget, and Finance Committees.
