POLL: Which of These Gubernatorial GOP Ads Convinces You?

Connecticut’s gubernatorial election will take place in November, but before that state residents must take care of the Republican primary.

Republican voters will head to the polls Aug. 12 to choose their candidate for Connecticut senator. They will have the choice of state Senate Minority Leader John McKinney and Greenwich businessman Tom Foley.

Both candidates have now released campaign videos, with markedly different methods for convincing Connecticut Republicans to give them their vote.

Foley was endorsed as the gubernatorial candidate at the party’s convention in May, but McKinney got enough votes to challenge him for that nomination, the New Haven Register reports.

McKinney released an attack ad against incumbent Democratic Senator Dannel Malloy back in May. The video shows McKinney watching Malloy give a speech.

 “That’s disgraceful,” McKinney says into the camera. “Dan Malloy is what’s wrong with Connecticut,” he continues.

By contrast, Foley’s first television ad focuses on his family and his role as a father. In the video his wife Leslie says her husband is “incredibly smart, he can fix anything. Tom’s an optimist who gets things done.”

Governor Malloy’s office did not respond to a request for comment on the television ads.
