Sign Up for CT Alert Emergency Notification System

You can register at ctalert.gov.

The CT Alert Emergency Notification System "uses the state’s Enhanced 9-1-1 (E9-1-1) database for location-based notifications to the public for life-threatening emergencies," using "traditional wire-line telephone numbers," according to ctalert.gov. You can also sign up for e-mail and text message alerts. 

The system notifies subscribers about emergency information related to the towns for which they want updates.

Avon Patch registered in anticipation of Hurricane Irene, and here was the latest emergency notification put out by the town of Avon:

  • "The town of avon is operating under emergency plans in advance of Hurricane Irene," the notification sent Saturday evening stated. "We anticipate large scale power outages downed wires and trees and localized flooding."
  • "At this time we urge residents to remain home and shelter in place and closely monitor local media for storm updates," the emergency notification further stated.
  • "Additional information will be available as needed," the town's CT alert said. "Routine questions may be directed to the police dispatch center at 860-409-4200 power outages should be reported to Connecticut Light and Power by calling 800-286-2000.
