TOWN MEETINGS

Monday, Dec. 5

  • The Board of Education is scheduled to have a special meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Room to get community input on the budget. 

Tuesday, Dec. 6

  • The Inland Wetlands Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the Selectmen's Conference Room in , Building One on Tuesday.

Wednesday, Dec. 7

  • The Library Building Committee is scheduled to meet at 7:30 a.m. in the Avon Room in Town Hall, Building One on Wednesday.
  • The Clean Energy Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. in the Avon Room in Town Hall.

Thursday, Dec. 8

  • The Avon Water Polution Control Authority is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in Town Hall.
  • There will be another special Board of Education meeting at Avon High School at 6:30 p.m. for community input.

AVON HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY SPORTS

Friday, Dec. 9

  • Avon girls basketball has its first game of the season away against Bolton at 7 p.m.

OTHER MAJOR EVENTS

Dec. 5

  • Starting at 9 a.m. daily through the month of December, Avon Boy Scout Troop 274 is selling Christmas trees outside on Route 44.

Dec. 6

  • The Avon High School is showing the documentary, in the high school band room at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Dec. 7

  • This is not so much an event as an announcement, but Wednesday marks the one-year anniversary of Avon Patch. I'll be at from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. if you'd like to stop by and say hello. This will be the first day of Patch On Your Corner, a fancy way of saying office hours. The date, hours and venue may change every week, so check the site every Monday to see where I will be. You can come meet me, ask questions and give feedback on our site. I'll be the one with the Patch sticker on my computer.
  • The Avon High School winter orchestra concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Avon High School.

Dec. 9

  • If you eat at Friday between 3 and 9 p.m., 10 percent of the proceeds will benefit Gifts of Love.

Dec. 10

  • The Avon Police Association is holding a Saturday at 8 a.m. outside Walmart on Route 44 at 255 West Main St. New and used toys are being accepted for the drive, which benefits Connecticut Children's Medical Center. The Cupcake Brake will also be there selling cupcakes and 10 percent of the proceeds will go toward the medical center.
  • The invites the public to view its gallerys and artist studios Saturday at 10 a.m. at . The event is free and attendees can enjoy chocolate samples as they look at the art.
  • is performing a holiday show dubbed Go Elf Yourself Saturday at 9 p.m. at .
