Taking Care of Horses in a Power Outage

How the First Company Governor's Horse Guards prepared for Hurricane Irene.

Horses need up to 10 gallons of water per day to survive, so losing power and well water access on Sunday could have posed a serious risk to the First Company Governor's Horse Guards' herd.

Luckily, the troops thought ahead and filled extra containers full of water.

Normally, the horses spend most of the day outside, but Sunday, they did not make it into the pasture until late afternoon. Needless to say, they were ready for some fresh air.
