Top Ten Highest Paid Avon Town and Public School Employees in 2010
These lists are based on information provided by Wiiliam Vernile, town human resources director, and the Board of Education.
Based on town and school administrative records, Assistant Superintendent Jody Goeler was the highest paid town or school employee between Jan. 2010 and Dec. 2010, followed by Avon High School principal Jason Beaudin and then Town Manager Brandon Robertson.
The following listings of the 10 highest paid town employees are based on information that Avon Human Resources Director William Vernile submitted from his records. The 10 highest paid school officials listed is based on information from Board of Education administration records. All of the data is for calendar year 2010, so from Jan. 2010 to Dec. 2010.
The numbers include some variables beyond straight salaries. Employees can recieve payments for opting out of the town's health insurance benefits and receive additional payment for mileage driven when using a personal vehicle on town business. Payment for opting out of the health insurance is calculated as 45 percent of the allocation rate, which Vernile said is "somewhat equivalent to what a premium rate would be for self insured plans."

Town Manager Brandon Robertson and Police Officer Lisa Petkis both opted out of the town's health insurance plan. Town Planner Steven Kushner also opted out of the town health insurance plan. Robertson received a $5,000 auto allotment in 2010 for using his personal vehicle on town business. Kushner also received an alottment of over $2,592 for the same reason.
The police payments listed include regular salaries and overtime, inclusive of private duty work. Vernile said that "overtime is funded through the budget adoption process, and revenue from vendors pay for private duty work." So, if an officer is on traffic detail for road construction, the vendor doing the project will reimburse the town for the hours of the officer. In 2010, there was a lot of construction work on Avon Mountain, Vernile said.
