Update: Why These Avon Taxpayers Are Receiving Refunds

The town's tax collector requested approval of $25,162 in tax refunds in early March.

The Avon Town Council granted $25,162 in real estate tax refunds to five account holders as requested by the town's collector of revenue in early March.

Five taxpayers overpaid the amount they owed based on property assessments from the Oct. 1, 2011 Grand List, according to materials reviewed at the council's March 7 meeting.

"The reason for these overpayments is the taxpayer or attorney sent in payment as well as their bank," Avon Tax Collector Deborah Fioretti wrote in a memorandum to Town Manager Brandon Robertson on Feb. 20 made available in material town staff submitted to the council. "The banks pay their accounts by sending one file and we were not able to pull these paid accounts which resulted in the overpayments."
