VIDEO: Waggin' and Wheelin' into the New Year

By the New Year, Avon-Canton Animal Control Officer Beverly LaPlume should have her new van.

But these wheels are more significant than your average car purchase.

The white 2011 Dodge Caravan will serve as the new animal control vehicle for the towns of Avon and Canton, paid for entirely by community donations and fundraisers.

The Waggin' for Wheels campaign, sponsored primarily by Avon food distributor Miller Foods and Mitchell Auto Group, of Simsbury, raised $20,000 for the cause. Mitchell donated a portion of its proceeds over the summer and is providing the vehicle at a reduced price.

A black model of the van was on display at Miller Foods' Thanksgiving tent last week.
