What Avon Municipal Candidates Are No Longer Running?

Two Democrats and on Republican are no longer running.

Two Democrats and one Republican initially endorsed for the Nov. 8 municipal election have pulled out of the race.

On the Republican side, Robert Paine is no longer running for Town Council and Christopher A. May is currently registered in his place. Board of Education member Barbara Zuras (D) has decided not to run for re-election and David D. Magrini has withdrawn from running for the Board of Finance, according to the Avon Town Clerk's Office.

"It has been an honor to be on the Avon Board of Education and to serve this wonderful community," Zuras wrote in an e-mail to Avon Patch. "However, my law practice is expanding, my parents are in their nineties and I want to spend more time with them. Hopefully, others will step forward to take my seat and offer fresh, innovative ideas to support our new superintendent, Gary Mala. I sincerely thank the Avon community for their support."

Zuras joins the list of other incumbents not seeking re-election, including Board of Education vice chairman Michael Eagan (R), school board members Kenneth Notestine (R) and Stacey Biernat (R), Board of Finance member William R. Hooper II (R), William Eschert (R) and John Drew (R) from the Zoning Board of Appeals, or James R. McCarthy (R) from the Assessment Board of Appeals.

That leaves the following candidates that will appear on the 2011 ballot as of Oct. 12:
