Who Won the Vice-Presidential Debate?

Paul Ryan and Joe Biden debated on Thursday night in Kentucky, and participants in Patch’s statewide live blog in Connecticut offered some pointed observations.

Often acting as surrogates for their running mates, Joe Biden and Paul Ryan squared off on international affairs, taxes and abortion, among other topics, in the only vice-presidential debate of the election season.

The candidates found little to agree on, whether it was a military withdrawal from Afghanistan, raising taxes and reforming entitlement programs. As expected, both sides spun the debate performances as victories.

One clear winner appeared to be widely-praised moderator Martha Raddatz, yet she did receive some criticism from conservatives.

Patch ran a statewide live blog that attracted upwards of 40 participants who offered their thoughts on the debate. Here are some of their reactions.

It's a toss-up. Biden: overconfident "I'm the voice of experience." Ryan: far-too-smiley equanimity.

John Flanagan:

Fortunately, or unfortunately, to the benefit of whichever VP candidate is deemed tomorrow, by the talking heads, to have fared worse, the debate is scheduled in the midst of the Yankees/Orioles, A's/Giants baseball playoffs and the Thursday night Steelers/Titans football games.

I was a little underwhelmed by this debate, but...full disclosure, I was a little distracted so it might be better when I rewatch it from the start.

Biden is a mouthpiece, an empty suit.

"Sometimes the words do not come out of your mouth the right way [said by Ryan to Biden]" will be the quote for the 2012 debate.

I love Biden's Passion.

Biden just nailed him on being a hypocrite about that stimulus.

Ryan is calm, cool, and collected. Biden is angry and looks like a fool.

Ryan, the phony also said he RAN a marathon in under 3 hours, when in REALITY-VILLE, it was OVER 4 HOURS. A completely scummy lie, FOR SURE! I ran 15 marathons more than 30 years ago and have NO problem remembering the times.

Who do you think won the debate? Tell us in the comments!

Obama was raised in Indonesia as a Muslim and attended Muslims schools as a child. Obama did attend a Baptist church for 20 years led by the anti-American preacher Jeremiah Wright, but Wright in an interview said that was mostly for political connections and Wright does not even know if he converted Obama. We really don't know where Obama's loyalties lie, as everything he does seems to be a "put on".

The "compromise" situation is a two party thing. Some GOP have moved farther right, but also there are Democrats going very extreme left. a far left radical holding veto power over Congress its much more difficult to compromise. Arlan Specter, a long time Senator that associated with both parties stated moderates from both parties are changing.

We all need to keep informed on what is really the agenda that is being implemented by our elected members. For your reference please stay informed. Subject: Can it all be Coincidence about Obama? We should not permit the destruction of our cities by lawless parallel societies, with groups of roaming criminal Muslims overloading of our welfare system and the growing justified fear that non-Muslims have of violence. The consequences should be so strict that it would be preferable for any anti-social Muslim to go back to a Muslim country, where they can understand, and can be understood by their own culture. . . ]Dr. Nancy Kobrin, Denmark IF YOU CAN READ THIS AND NOT BE TOTALLY DISILLUSIONED ABOUT WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THIS COUNTRY YOU HAVE MY SYMPATHY!! CAN IT ALL BE COINCIDENCE? by Don Fredrick, ©2012, blogging at The Obama Timeline http://www.colony14.net/id668.html I hope this helps.

Ms Clark for argument sake let's stipulate that the BHO’s request for an increase in State's budget was reduced in the House [I know it is a difficult concept for Progressives / Socialist to understand but a reduction in the rate of growth IS NOT A CUT]. I will even ignore the fact that its has been over 1,250 days since Congress passed & BHO signed a budget making “cuts” difficult. Most of the US Embassies in the EU have significant Marine [over 50] & diplomatic security personnel available for reassignment as require. It would be difficult to contend that reassigning / juggling such excess would have put the Ambassadors in Paris or Brussels “at risk” it's call management. Obama’s re election narrative drove what happened in Benghazi - the great peacemaker & supporter of the Arab Spring normalized relations! In his testimony before Congress, Mr. Nordstrom, Regional Security Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Libya, stated that in 2 phone calls to Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Charlene Lamb that Lamb told him “not to request extensions of Site Security Teams” for what Nordstrom described Lamb citing as “political reasons.” But fear not, Stephanie Cutter attempted to peddle "the entire reason that this has become the, you know, political topic it is, is because of Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan” not because the Ambassador was killed in a terrorist attack while being defended by only two guards, one contractor & no Marines and the President lied about it!
