[Update] Sunlight Construction Withdraws Lenox Road Housing Development Applications

The Planning and Zoning Commission was scheduled to review those application at its Tuesday night meeting.

Controversial housing development proposals to build 57 housing units on Lenox Road have been withdrawn from the Planning and Zoning Commission's Tuesday meeting agenda, according to a notification from town planning staff to officials and the media.

Attorney Robert M. Meyers, on behalf of Sunlight Construction Inc. and developer William A. Ferrigno, hand delivered a letter to town staff Monday notifying Planning and Zoning Chairman Duane Starr of the applicant's decision to withdraw applications 4654-57.

Meyers did not indicate why his client decided to withdraw the four applications and declined to comment.

Town staff said Tuesday morning that it is likely Sunlight Construction will resubmit the project applications at a later date, but neither Meyers nor Sunlight Construction could be reached to confirm. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

The developers previously asked the commission to grant permission for a 24-lot subdivision on 45.5 acres of Lenox Road land for the Jefferson Crossing project (4654) and to allow the construction of 23 "single family cluster" homes on the property (4655). The other two applications asked the commission to permit a 34-unit condominium development there (4657) and to approve the site plan for the Southampton Village proposed "multiple dwelling" development (4656).

Many residents on Haynes Road and other nearby streets previously wrote to town official and spoke at public hearings in opposition to the proposal. Click here to read about what they had to say.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectman's Chambers at Avon Town Hall, Building 1. Town Hall is located at 60 West Main St.
