Avon BOE Requests Capital Funds for Possible Roaring Brook Cafeteria Renovations

School officials halt consideration of possible satellite cafeteria.

The Avon Board of Education has requested $7,500 in funding through the town's Capital Improvement Program to help assess the need for renovating Roaring Brook School's cafeteria.

The money would pay for "feasibility work to examine [Roaring Brook School] and its current systems, according to John Spang, finance director for Avon Public Schools.

The Town Council will review the request in February, Spang said, and decide whether the item will be a priority on the 2014-15 budget.

If Roaring Brook School's cafeteria does need to be upgraded, the school board was considering a satellite cafeteria during renovations. The idea was to cook the food in one cafeteria and deliver it to the school. But Spang said that option has been taken off the table and is no longer under consideration.
