Avon Falls to Suffield

The Falcons' girls basketball team came up a little short in the NCCC tournament consolation game against the Wildcats.

It's been a long time since the Suffield High School girls basketball team has beaten .

The Wildcats finally got the upper hand on Friday in the NCCC tournament consolation game at Windsor Locks as they defeated the Falcons 46-43.

The teams traded leads several times in the game before Suffield took a large lead, only to see Avon come back.

With just under a minute to play, Suffield led 44-43 but Avon had a couple of chances to take the lead. The Falcons couldn't convert and Suffield's Rachael Tedone went to the line with 8.2 seconds remaining.

Tedone hit both free throws to give Suffield a three-point lead and Avon got the ball for a final shot. A three-point shot by Kiera Givens was deflected and the Wildcats escaped with the victory.

Ashley Gleason led Suffield with 12 points and Stephanie Guminiak added 10. Jessica Flagg added seven for the Wildcats.

Caroline Jadovich led Avon with 20 points and Emily Jordan added nine. Givens had six for the Falcons.

Suffield (17-6) will host Bloomfield in the Class M State Tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Avon (18-5) has a bye in the first round of the Class L State Tournament. The Falcons will host the winner of the Windsor-Masuk game on Thursday at 7 p.m.
