Avon Girls Indoor Track Wins NCCC Title

The Avon High School boys team takes eighth.

With 110 points, Avon High School girls indoor track and field declared a sound victory in the NCCC Indoor Championship on Jan. 22.

The boys team placed eighth with 22 points, one off from Stafford and Granby, both of which tied for sixth.

Girls

  • Stephanie Koo, Chamivah Roland, Tara Shayler and Amanda Holtzman take first in the 4 by 200 relay (1:52.70).
  • Rachel Rosow, Molly Hamel, Sara Stokesbury and Kristen Goldie won the 4 by 800 relay (10:27.98).
  • Roland placed second in the 55-meter dash finals (7.41). Koo and Shayler took sixth (8.03) and seventh (8.14), respectively
  • Maddie McHugh and Stokesbury placed second (3:14.28) and third (3:15.12), respectively, in the 1,000-meter run. Hannah Carpino came in ninth (3:35.23) and Caitlin Cunningham crossed the line in 11th (3:49.05). 
  • Holtzman won the 600-meter dash (1:44.94). Jennifer Koo placed ninth (1:54.02).
  • Hamel and Rosow claimed first (5:33.10) and second (5:37.39), respectively, in the 1,600-meter run. Katie McIntyre placed ninth (6:07.15), Carpino came in 12th (6:21.03) and Cunningham finished in 16th (6:42.31).
  • Stephanie Koo placed fourth in the 300-meter dash (46.22).
  • Hamel came in second for the 3,200-meter run (11:46.77). Kristen Goldie placed sixth (13:24.14).
  • Chamiyah Roland, Karina Bucci, Maddie McHugh and Sara Stokesbury won the 1,600-meter sprint medley (4:38.81).
  • Maeve Reiss jumped 14 feet, seven inches in the long jump, placing fifth.
  • Jade Yen took second in the shot put, throwing 28 feet, nine inches.
  • Caroline Rendeiro was second in the high jump, reaching five feet.

Boys

  • Mike Oberhausen, Brett Holzman, Connor Wise and Andrew Redlund placed third in the 4 by 800 relay (9:17.38).
  • Evan Edgar placed fifth in the 55-meter dash (7.18).
  • Connor Wise came in fifth in the 1,600-meter run (4:58.21). Justin Alessio placed eighth (5:11.00) and Holzman was close behind him in ninth (5:11.79).
  • Edgar, Frank Campanelli, Ben Crawford and James Grant placed third in the 1,600-meter sprint medley (4:16.59).
  • Edgar took fifth in the 300-meter dash (39.25).
  • Wise placed sixth in the 3,200-meter run (10:42.57).
  • Crawford, Andrew Suter, Kyle Jackson and Christian Salhany came in sixth for the 4 by 400 relay (4:20.75).
