Avon Photos of the Day: Avon Old Farms Football Star Commits to Harvard

John Van Allen: from Hartford to Harvard.

Congratulations to Avon Old Farms School senior John Van Allen for signing a letter of intent to play varsity football at Harvard.

The Hartford resident made the commitment on National Signing Day more than a week ago. He will be a member of the Class of 2017.

Van Allen was a captain of this year’s varsity football team at Avon Old Farms. A two-way starter, he played on both offense and defense, as a wide receiver and strong safety. His senior year he was elected MVP. A two-year All-Conference selection, Van Allen also earned All-New England distinction for his senior season this year.

An active student council member and Vice Warden of the student body, Van Allen is also a member of the varsity track and field team, and manager of the varsity basketball team. He is a Dean’s List student and serves as an admissions ambassador for Avon Old Farms School.
