Avon Public Schools Closed Monday and Tuesday

Will they be closed again on Wednesday?

On the seventh day of know school, school officials wait to see if there will be class on day three.

That means that athletics and other activities are canceled Tuesday, however will still be used as a polling station Nov. 8 for municipal elections. Voters that would normally go to Roaring Brook School will instead vote in the high school's old gym.

DATTCO, the bus company Avon contracts with, will assess roads Monday, Superintendent Gary Mala told Patch Sunday evening, and consult with the Avon on their findings.

By Tuesday, Avon students will have missed seven days of school during the October snowstorm aftermath, in addition to missing the original first day of school in August due to Tropical Storm Irene damage. Mala and his administrators are considering all available options for making up lost school days.  A recommendation is being compiled and will be presented to the school board tomorrow.

While Mala said that he hopes there's no need to keep schools closed past Tuesday, this depends on the status of the roads and power restoration to schools. The administration is being proactive in the face of the situation, he said.
