School officials have announced that all Avon Public Schools will open 90 minutes late today, Thursday, Nov. 8.
Avon High School and Avon Middle School will begin the day at 9:10 a.m., Thompson Brook School will start at 9:50 a.m. and elementary schools will open at 10:20 a.m.
Morning kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes are canceled.
The snow that fell Wednesday afternoon and evening from the nor'easter, now named Storm Athena, is expected to turn to rain later Thursday with high temperatures around 42°, according to AccuWeather.com. A winter storm advisory is forecast to remain in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday.
After-school and evening activities were canceled Wednesday due to the snow.
Eastbound lanes at the bottom of Avon Mountain were closed Wednesday evening due to several disabled motor vehicles at the base as snow accumulated.
The retirement party for Avon Free Public Library Director Virginia Vocelli was postponed from Wednesday to Thursday at 5 p.m.
