Avon School Board Recognizes January 2013 Avon Achievers

At the beginning of every school board meeting, the board honors staff, students and parents for their accomplishments and involvement in the school community.

Staff from Pine Grove School and students from Roaring Brook School are listed as the school board's most recent Avon Achievers to be honored at Tuesday night's meeting.

The staff members to be recognized from Pine Grove School are:

  • Jan Cohen, art teacher
  • Sue McCabe, library media specialist
  • Lori Sigan, computer media tech assistant
  • Lauren Torres, music teacher

The educators developed the Morning Walking club giving students the opportunity to exercise before school and Piney's Performance Pieces "to showcase student talent," according to the school board's agenda.

The students named Avon Achievers from Roaring Brook School are:

  • Ella Bernarduci
  • Halle Keane
  • Matthew Smith
  • Veronica Suarez

All four wrote "compelling" essays about "What Veterans' Day Means to Me," which they read aloud to members of the Avon VFW at the annual Veterans Day program, according to the board agenda.

The school board will also recognize Avon Middle School student Jordan Lazinsk and Avon High School's Rebecca Rothstein, who both previously received the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents Award.
