Avon Schools Close for a Sixth Day

Check back for updates about school next week.

Avon schools will be closed again on Monday, making that the sixth day that schools have been closed during the storm.

Superintendent Gary Mala made the decision at the special Avon Town Council meeting Friday after hearing further information from town officials about the condition of the roads covered in debris. He was concerned about the danger of buses and other vehicles traveling in areas where there are hanging branches.

Over two dozen roads are impassable, town officials said, and the following need attention from Connecticut Light & Power crews in order to clear them so that emergency vehicles can pass through. One of those roads is Thompson Road, which has trees and wires down near the Old Farms end. Thompson Brook School, Avon's only upper elementary school, is on that road.
