Avon knew it was traveling into unfriendly turf Thursday night, taking on undefeated Enfield High School in a battle of NCCC rivals.
The Falcons quickly silenced the partisan Enfield crowd, permitting the Raiders just three points in the first quarter and eight in the first half, en route to a 59-35 victory.
Avon built a 24-8 halftime lead on the strength of nine points from Ryan Marioni, who finished with a game-high 24. The Falcons' defense held Enfield's top scorers, Paul Lima and Ra Preston, to a combined three points in the opening half.
A 25-15 advantage in the third quarter gave Avon a 26-point lead entering the final eight minutes. A 10-0 run pulled the Raiders within 18 with five minutes to play, but the Falcons pulled away to improve to 10-2.
Sean Herrmann had 12 points and Brandon Feinberg added 10 for the Falcons. Lima was the only Raider in double figures, tallying 12 points.
Avon travels to Farmington Saturday at 4 p.m., while Enfield plays at Ellington Tuesday at 7 p.m.
