Avon Wrestling Defeats East Windsor in Convincing Fashion

The 11 of 14 match pins are highlights of Avon's 66-15 victory

With just one match to date, the wrestling team went into Wednesday evening's match against East Windsor High School hoping only to add one more win to this season's record. Little did they know how convincing their win would be.

After opening the match with loss at the 182-pound weight class, it was junior Alberto Borstein who lifted is team and quickly shifted the momentum in Avon's favor. Sophomore Nick Zacchio added to the Avon lead, pinning his opponent Tyron Oqundo at the 201-pound weight class.

Despite falling behind early, East Windsor was not ready to give up just yet. Junior Nick Fernandez stepped in for the Pathers to take the victory in the top weigh class of the evening.

From that point, Avon took complete control of the match winning nine of the remaining ten matches - each Falcon win completed by a pin of their opponent. The final match put the "icing on the cake" as junior Joe Murphy needed just 14 seconds to finish his match against East Windsor senior Paul Kluk at the 170-pound weight class.

"We're a young team, but with really good athletes" stated Head Coach John McLaughlin. "It all paid off tonight".
