Ringing the old Towpath Elementary School bell has been a tradition on the first day of the school year at since it opened 21 years ago.
However, something changes every year – who gets to ring the bell.
This year, it was six students. Pine Grove community council representatives Jack Sherbacow and Delia Hogan were the first two to ring it. Four of their peers also got a chance to ring the bell, each representing a grade, including first-grader Gerald Blaise, second-grader Daniel Hamilton, third-grader Dymand Marie Collier and fourth-grader Colin Hamilton.
Parents also met their children's kindergarten teachers Tuesday and went on a practice bus ride with their kids.
