This past October, nineteen students and two faculty members from the Deutsche Schule Barcelona (DSB), arrived in Avon to participate in an annual school exchange with Avon High School. This year, Avon High School celebrated fifteen years with the DSB exchange.  Students from the Deutsche Schule, stayed with Avon host families for ten days before venturing on to New York City for their final two days in the United States. While in Avon, the DSB students participated in team building activities lead by Avon Middle School’s John Snyder, attended classes with their AHS hosts, travelled to Mystic Seaport and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Museum with their AHS hosts, and visited Yale University.  The AHS host families, coordinated by Mrs. Mary Ann McHugh and Mrs. Claudia Cunningham, organized a variety of group activities including attending a UConn soccer match, an evening at the Farmington Haunted Mini Golf, a Halloween Party, a trip to the Haunted Graveyard at Lake Compounce, and a farewell social. During the February school break, the AHS student hosts will travel to Barcelona and participate in a homestay exchange with their DSB peers.  While in Barcelona, the AHS students will visit landmarks and places of cultural interest in and around Barcelona, attend school with their DSB peers, and partake in several hands-on activities including a cooking class, an art class, and a human-towers building class.
