Walt Whitman: A Dramatic One Man Performance

The Avon Public Library continues its commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.  , “Walt Whitman: A Dramatic One Man Performance”, will be presented by Stephen Collins, noted actor and teacher from Boxboro, Massachusetts.  Mr. Collins’ critically acclaimed performance will explore the poet’s resolve to write with “free and brave thought” leading to the creation of Leaves of Grass and his extraordinary work nursing wounded soldiers in Civil War hospitals for three years.  Through poetry and readings of actual letters, we will experience Whitman’s growth into a mature artist at peace with “himself, God and death.”

This program will be held at the Avon Senior Center, 635 West Avon Road, Avon, CT 06001.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please call the Avon Library at 860-673-9712 to register or for more information. Register online through the Avon Library’s website at www.avonctlibrary.info.  This event is made possible by a grant from the Avon Education Foundation.
