Photo Gallery: First Day at Roaring Brook School in Avon

Student and faculty-wide "Pep Rally" tradition continues at RBS.

A beautiful blue sky and bright sunshine brought warmth for the first day of school at Avon's Roaring Brook School for nearly 600 students age preschool to fourth grade. Many parents were in attendance with cameras in hand snapping pictures of his or her child on the first day.

Dr. Crisanne Colgan, Roaring Brook principal, rallied the children around a theme of learning and asked students to tell someone at home what he or she has learned each day.

The "Pep Rally," as it is fondly referred to, is a unique display of that kind of community spirit and outreach with families.

She shared the school flag's sentiments. The flag was student-designed and selected in a contest of school fourth graders a prior school year.

Assistant Principal Larry Sparks shared a cheerful welcome.  The children, faculty and staff recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and music teacher Paul Johnson led everyone in singing "America the Beautiful."

Roaring Brook is built upon a special community of multi-faceted learning and communication between school and home.
