Have you visited the Roaring Brook courtyard lately?

There has been a crowd in the Learning Courtyard the past week, though not a living one.

Roaring Brook School classes worked together to build scarecrows, each with a different theme. The Scarecrow Garden is on display in the courtyard for parents to view through mid-November.

Students and staff are working with Gifts of Love to do a food drive, so they invite the public to bring at least one non-perishable item to donate to the cause.

First grade teacher Susan Winterson organized the project, collaborating with fourth grade teachers Kerry Lurate and Lynne Zemaitis. Student Council members and staff student council supervisors Deborah Zacchio and Melinda Krusz helped with the publicity.

Winterson said that the kindergarteners make scarecrows every year, but that the project was opened up to the whole school this year.

"The whole school had a fun time with it," she said.
