Avon School Board Names New Thompson Brook Principal

Michael Renkawitz leaves West Hartford to lead Avon school.

The Avon Board of Education appointed Michael Renkawitz as the new principal of Thompson Brook School at a special meeting recently.

Renkawitz comes from West Hartford, where he has been principal of King Philip Middle School since 2007 and assistant principal for four years prior. Before that, Renkawitz served as principal of Ware Middle School in Ware, MA. He began his career as a classroom teacher, teaching sixth grade for six years in Longmeadow, MA.

Of his appointment, Avon Superintendent Gary Mala said, “[Renkawitz] earned the respect and unanimous endorsement of the search and selection committee participants during the various steps of the process and from the Board of Education members as well. His experience and success with leading others toward a common focus on meeting the needs of all children will serve our school and community well.”
