Avon-Glastonbury Rematch Wednesday in 11-12 Little League Section Finals

Avon defeats Waterford South 9-7.

The Avon 11-12 All Stars' 9-7 win over Waterford South Monday guarantees them a rematch against an undefeated Glastonbury team Wednesday in the Section 2 Finals.

"The teams faced each other earlier this week in a tough battle that ended with a walk off single in the bottom of the [sixth] giving Glastonbury a 6-5 victory," Team Manager Mark Olson wrote in an e-mail to Patch.

Avon achieved an early 6-1 lead against Waterford South after three innings, scoring again in the fourth and one in the fifth.

"Justin Olson started the game and gave up 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and allowed 2 runs in 4 2/3 innings. Andrew Marshall and Sam Leopold finished up in relief tonight," Mark Olson wrote to Patch late Monday night.

Avon served up 13 hits, including six extra base hits, according to Olson. Evan Deckers led the team offensively, hitting 2-2, including a home run and double. Max Kritikos hit 2-2 and scored a home run, as well. Jack Prete hit one home run that scored Avon two runs. He connected on two out of four at-bats.

Avon plays in the section finals Wednesday against Glastonbury at 6 p.m. in Uncasville for a chance to go to the statewide championship.
