After getting approval from Superintendent of Schools, Gary Mala, to publically acknowledge the committee’s selection, Athletic Coordinator, Newell Porch announced that James R.  Caouette will replace long time coach Brett Quinion as the new Head Football Coach at Avon High School.  Coach Caouette will be stepping into a position with plenty of success and expectations.  The team finished its fall campaign winning the NCCC League Championship and going 10-0 in regular season play.

According to Porch, “Jim did a wonderful job in the interview process.  He received great recommendations from some of the top coaches in the state.  With his varied asst. coaching and coordinating experience the committee felt he would be a tremendous addition to the athletic staff.  He has already brought enthusiasm and a personality that I believe will be infectious with our players to help them relate and buy into his expectations”.

Jim Caouette has been an assistant coach at the high school level for nineteen years and an assistant at the Division III college level for one year.  He brings a tremendous desire to be successful along with a tenacious work ethic.  He has been an Offensive and Defensive Coordinator and was a Defensive Back coach at the New Haven All-Star Game this past year.  Jim has served as assistant coach at Wolcott, Wilby, Woodland and Cheshire High Schools as well as Western Conn. State University.

A high energy guy, Jim has already met with team members and is anxious to start organizing off season conditioning and wt. training.  “We feel very fortunate to have offered the position to Jim who we believe will be able to make a long term commitment to our program and community.  He understands the academic side of the Student/Athlete that is such a major priority here at Avon.  The school administration and Athletic Department feel very strongly that Jim will maintain the priorities to discipline, and excellence that Brett Quinion had established.  He is a detail oriented individual who has already demonstrated solid organizational skills and appears to be an exceptional motivator.
