[Update] Avon Girls XC Wins Bellringer Invite And Other Sports Results, Sept. 26-30

Girls Cross Country

• The Avon girls varsity cross country team won the Bellringer invitational Friday. Sophomores Rachel Rosow (21:19) and Sara Stokesbury (21:52) placed second and third, respectively, followed closely by freshman Molly Hamel (21:53) in fourth. Junior Katie McIntrye finished eighth (22:53). The complete results are available at mysportsresults.com.

Boys Cross Country

• The Avon varsity boys cross country team placed fourth at the Bellringer Cross Country Invite in East Hampton Friday. Avon senior Matt Mascoli finished 14th overall (19:30.9). Junior Jeff Demers, of Avon, was close behind in 18th (19:39.3), followed by Avon junior Jordan Lieberman (19:43.1).

Boys Soccer

• The Avon High School boys varsity soccer team had two victories this week, defeating Windsor Locks 7-1 on Monday and Stafford 6-0 on Tuesday.

Girls Soccer

• The Avon girls varsity soccer team came home with two shutouts in away games this week, beating Windsor Locks 3-0 on Monday and Stafford 4-0 on Tuesday.
  

Volleyball

• Avon girls varsity volleyball defeated Newington 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 13-25, 25-22) at a Sept. 27 away game. Mary Pearce (22 assists), Dana Rosato (11 kills, four aces and six digs) and Amanda Savarese (20 digs) along with junior Ariel Lepito (six aces and five kills) had standout performances in the match, Avon varsity volleyball coach Curtis Burns wrote in an e-mail to Patch. That brings Avon to a 3-3 record overall. 

Field Hockey

• The Avon girls varsity field hockey team won 4-0 against Enfield at home on Tuesday.
