Avon High School Track & Field and Cross Country Teams Hold Successful Fundraiser for new Fully Automatic Timing System

Thanks to the Avon High School Booster Club, the community, parents, and alumni, the Avon High School Cross Country and Track & Field teams have raised almost $8,000 to purchase a Fully Automatic Timing System (FAT system).

The FinishLynx Fully Automatic Timing system meets national standards for timing, enabling efficient and accurate management for all running events. This system will allow Avon High School to host larger meets—both invitational and championship. Plus, with the system, meet cost savings can be achieved as fewer personnel are required as timers on the track. Avon High can also choose to rent out timekeeping services. According to Head Coach Al Dadario, “This will benefit Indoor Track where virtually all the meets are invitational and require an entry fee; currently the standard is that if the system is used, the school is not charged entry fees.”

Funds raised included a $3,450 donation from the Avon High School Booster Club. The remaining donations came from parents of current and former athletes, alumni, and members of the Avon High School and Avon town community. The Avon High School track & field and cross country teams have the highest number of students participating of any school team; outdoor track with over 125 boys and girls. Over these past several years, the teams have seen an increase in student participation and results, with a high level of both individual and team success at conference, state, and regional levels. All of the coaches maintain a very strong commitment to welcome all who want to compete and do their utmost to help them succeed.  Recently, Coach Dadario was recognized ac CIAC Outstanding Girls Cross Country Coach for 2012 after 17 years of coaching the high school program.

The Avon High School track & field and cross country teams wish to thank everyone involved for their support of the programs, and hope to see everyone at the meets.
