Avon Little League Seeks Connecticut Section II Tournament Title

The U-12 Mission III All Stars had an exciting week, winning their third straight District 6 championship.

The U-12 Mission III All Stars have advanced to the Connecticut Section II Tournament after Wednesday night.

So, Avon Patch thought it was only fair to recognize the Little Leaguers as team of the week for our Patchlete series highlighting Avon athletes from elementary school kids to adults.

Avon had to play 13 teams and defeat six teams in a row this season to win the district championship title, Avon coach Stephen Harris said. The boys beat Burlington 16-2.

"Sam Leopold pitched the four innings of the shortened game due to the mercy rule as Avon pounded out 16 runs," Harris wrote in an email to Patch. "Dylan Nastri led the way with two home runs – Connor Harris and Blake Thompson also hit long home runs. The Mission All Stars hit the ball hard from top to bottom as Eamon Moore, Will Boone and Adam Theriault continued their hot hitting and Ryan Ollestad caught another great game behind the plate."

Winning is one thing, but the boys also held their opponents nearly scoreless overall, batting 80 runs. Only four runs were scored against Avon.

According to Harris, the top performers in the line-up this season are Nastri (5), Leopold (4), Boone (1) and Connor Harris (4), who collectively "smashed" 14 home runs "during district play."

Harris was impressed by his team's performance this season and now they are vying for the State Section II Tournament championship title.

The games will be played in Mansfield at 5:30 pm. on July 18, 19, 20 and 21. The championship is scheduled for July 23. If they win it all, they earn a trip back to "the State Championship best of the three for the right to go to Bristol." Harris said.

The 9-3 for the District 6 title.
