Avon Takes Eighth in the Class L Wrestling State Championship

The championship took place at Bristol Eastern High School Friday and Saturday night.

Fairfield Warde placed fourth in the tournament with 175 points. They had one state champion in Mike Sullivan (160).  Pharoah Eaton (125), Evan Fraser (130), James Neamontis (135) and Alex Delaney (171) took second place. James Heinzman (189) took fourth. Mike Money (275) placed fifth.  

Middletown placed right behind Fairfield in fifth with 121 points. They had five wrestlers place in the meet. Tyler McDonald (103) placed fifth along with Andrew Carignan (112) and Chris Kerr (135). Deven Carillo (171) placed first and Mark Thompkins (275)  placed third. 

Darien (sixth, 102) had Lars  Remole (140) take the state title.  Dimitri Chargares (130) and Malcolm Kiplinger placed fifth while John Corcoran(145)  placed sixth.

Avon (eighth, 93.5) had individuals place in four weight classes. James Gendler (140) and Joe Murphy (152) placed fifth. Ryan Pearson (160) and Dave St. Onge placed second. 

Pomperaug (12th, 80) had four wrestler place in the tournament.  Eduard Krutyansky (103) placed sixth and William Sheehy (145) placed fifth.  Alexander Cieply came in third place and Ian Jones (215) received a medal for fourth.

New Canaan (13th, 74.5). Brian Khzouz (145) took the state title while Dylan Leeming (189) placed fifth. 

Farmington (15th, 71.5 points) had indivduals place in three  weight classes. Garrett Hastings (119) took fourth place, Matt Natale (125)  and Ryan Rigney (135)  took sixth place.

Brandon Riggins (189) of Norwalk (18th, 48.5) beat his Avon opponent to take the state title. 

Fairfield Ludlowe placed 24th with thirty points. 

Windsor (27th, 19) had N. Bonesteel take fourth place.
