Avon-Wethersfield Rematch in Thursday 10-11 Little League Section Finals

The Avon U-11 Little League All Stars took on South Windsor Wednesday, and won 9-3

Avon and South Windsor went into Wednesday's sectionals game with 3-1 records in this stage of the 10-11 Little League tournament, and Avon became the victor advancing to the Section 2 Championship Thursday after a 9-3 win.

If Avon wins Thursday's championship, the team will advance to the state championship series this weekend.

"The entire team from top to bottom is contributing," Team Manager Steve Harris wrote in an e-mail to Patch. "They all are stepping up and doing there jobs and collectivley have showed how perpared they are in the way they are playing throughout this tournament."

Avon's Dylan Nastri led off the game with a walk. Adam Theriault's triple scored a run to put Avon in the lead 1-0. Ryan Ollestad hit his third home run of the tournament, knocking it directly over center field, notching two more points for Avon to bring the score to 3-0.

"The hit attack from there was lead by Will Boone who had a big three run double to put Avon up 6-0 in the second and another good night by Eamon Moore with three hits," Harris said. "Dylan Nastri, Theriault and Ollesatad with two each. Connor Harris drove in two big runs playing a solid defensive game at First base. Jack Stokesbury, Max Ravech and Dylan Hellyar continue to have effective at-bats at the bottom of the order laying down key bunts and moving the order back to the top."

The team has a lot of depth, according to Harris.

"Having Blake Thompson and Mike Franke on the bench has provided great flexibility as they are great base runners and played solid defense when called upon," Harris said. "A true team effort to this point. Noah Hay got the start and was effective going three innings for the win."

Pitchers Adam Theriault, Eamon Moore and Will Boone closed the game.

Harris is putting Dylan Nastri back on the mound as starting pitcher for the championship, who he calls one of his "aces."

Avon will face Wethersfield again, which the team shut out 1-0 in the first game of sectionals. The title game is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. in Harwinton.

Harris said he is "proud of all the boys as they have represented Avon Little League with great pride."
