Avon High School soccer players Erica Primovic and Jenna Donahue will be playing Division I next year and lacrosse player Nick Guarino will be playing in Division II.

Two girls varsity soccer players signed with Division I teams Wednesday afternoon and a boys varsity lacrosse athlete will be playing in Division II next year.

Erica Primovic, Avon's leading scorer in the fall soccer season, has committed to the University of Hartford and her teammate, co-captain Jenna Donahue will be playing in Division I, as well, at Providence College.

"It's close by. 25 minutes," Primovic said of the University of Hartford. "When I play soccer, I like to play for my family and people I love."

The highlight of playing soccer at the high school was winning the Class L championship for the first time in the fall against Farmington, Donahue said. She is looking forward to traveling to play teams across the country.

"I wanted to find a school I would enjoy even if I didn't play a sport at," Donahue said of Providence. "I really like how it's in the Big East and I'll be playing all those big schools.... It's definitely going to be a challenge."

Avon lacrosse player Nick Guarino has signed with Assumption, a Division II college in Worcester, MA. He said he hopes to major in business or psychology there.

"I'm looking forward to being able to play kids from different areas, besides Connecticut, Massachusetts and areas I've already played in," Guarino said, "and seeing different styles of how people play and adapting to the college game...."

He said that he made valuable friendships playing at Avon High.

I've gained a lot of brothers," Guarino said, "It's more of a family than anything."
