Last weekend, 150 people from Avon and across the state competed in the Avon Booster Club Falcon 5K Run/Walk at Avon High School.
Farmington's Chris Chisolm, 50, was the race champion, finishing in 16:53.3, according to race results posted on thelastmileracing.com/results. Brian St. Jean, 15, took second with 18:17.
And there were many instances of family success stories too.
Avon's Jon Strassner (18:37.6), 47, won first in the 40-49 age bracket and placed fourth overall. His son, Riley, 14, an Avon High School freshman, was just ahead of him with 18:23.4. He also placed second in the 13-18 age group, according to a submitted announcement posted on Patch. Bob Davey, 56, (19:37.8) and his kids, Hannah, 15, (20:58.7) and Luke, 12, (18:39.0) also won their age divisions. Overall, Luke placed fifth, Bob took 10th overall and Hannah crossed the line in 16th.
From the Mascoli family, 11-year-old Caroline Mascoli (29:46) placed third in the 7-12 age group and her aunt, Linda Mascoli, 42, (24:28.14) took second in in the 40-49 age bracket.
Another highlight came from an out-of-town family that traveled all the way from Coventry for the race. Six of their children placed in their divisions, according to the press release.
