Farmington soccer players, fans and coaches wore pink at Friday's junior varsity and varsity games against Southington at Tunxis Mead.
The total amount raised hasn't been announced yet, but the leadership for the benefitting local cancer non-profit, Just B Cancer Free informed the crowd during a presentation before the varsity game that the efforts will fund the return of the mobile mammography van in the spring.
Last year, the soccer teams' Pink Out brought the van to town and provided mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women. The organization stressed the importance of this for early detection of breast cancer.
Before the varsity game, JV players were lined up with pink pumpkin buckets to collect donations from drivers coming into the park in lieu of admission. While $5 was the suggested donation, many people were dropping twenties into the bins. Parents also walked around with pink buckets during the game for people to donate to and the teams sold pink merchandise.
