Rosow Finishes First in Age Group at Manchester Road Race

Avon High's championship season may have been over, but all-conference and all-state runner Rachael Rosow had another major race to won.

Rachael Rosow had a good run this season in Manchester, namely winning (19:31) the five-kilometer Class MM championship race at Wickham Park on the morning of the Oct. 29 snowstorm.

Now she has claimed the title for her age bracket, females 14 to 18, in a major independent race in the town, the Manchester Road Race.

"If I were to reflect back on anything about the race, I would note what a high energy level and fun environment the race has," Rosow wrote in an e-mail to Patch about last weekend's race. "It's more laid back because I'm not representing a team or my school, it's just for fun."

Rosow, an Avon High School sophomore, finished the 4.748-mile race in 29:53. The distance is about 1.5 miles longer than the Wickham Park course.

"I had some bets with my older brother on who would win so that added some friendly competition and I knew a lot of the competitors including my teacher," Rosow wrote to Patch. "The energy of the crowd lining the streets kept me motivated for the whole race and I was very happy with my time. Finally broke the 30-minute barrier!"

She was the 27th fastest female runner and crossed the finish line as 325th overall out of 13,470 people who completed the race.

Rosow's Falcons finished second in the Class MM championship and advanced with her to the CIAC State Open race after an undefeated season and NCCC championship.

The all-conference and all-state runner has two more seasons at Avon High before she is off to college.
