This Week in Avon High School Sports Feb. 14-20
Big game for Avon girls hoops at Bacon Academy and NCCC champion wrestlers compete in Class L state championship.
A big game for the Avon High School girls basketball team and the Class L wrestling state championship meet highlight the Falcons' sports schedule this week.
The boys basketball team will look to get on a roll heading into the postseason and the red-hot wave hockey team looks to continue its winning ways and avenge an earlier setback this week as well.

The Falcons (16-2) wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games. Avon is at Bacon Academy on Tuesday and at Bolton on Thursday.
Bacon Academy is 19-0 and currently the top seed in the state in Class L. Bacon Academy is also ranked in the top-five in the state.

Avon, which is on a five-game winning streak, is currently the fifth ranked team in Class L.
“The Bacon game will be a good measuring stick and a good opportunity, but it doesn't really have any bearing on state standing,” Waters said. “That said we would love to win it.”
Boys Basketball:
Avon has four games left in the regular season and has a pair of games on tap this week.
The Falcons are 9-7 this season and are coming off a 49-47 loss at Suffield on Friday. Avon is at Ellington on Tuesday and hosts Bolton on Friday. The Falcons posted a 68-61 victory over Ellington at home on Jan. 25.
“We are looking to close out the regular season on a strong note,” Avon boys varsity basketball coach Chris Vozzolo said. “We hope to gain the consistency we will need to make a solid run into the post season.”
Wrestling:
The Falcons will compete in the Class L state championships Friday and Saturday at Bristol Eastern High School.
The opening rounds start Friday at 1:30 p.m. Finals will be held on Saturday with action starting at 9 a.m.
Ice Hockey:
The Wave (10-3) look to continue their winning ways and gain a measure of revenge Wednesday against Milford Co-op at Loomis Chaffee Ice Rink.
The Wave have won four straight and six of their last seven with just a 5-4 overtime loss to Milford Co-op on Jan. 29 in that span.
Swimming:
Avon has a tri-meet against Northwest Catholic and Hall on Tuesday at Corner Stone Aquatics.
The Falcons take to the pool again Thursday against Simsbury at Miss Porter’s Pool at 7 p.m.
Indoor Track:
Brianna Noonan will compete in the long jump in the State Open which is scheduled for Saturday at the New Haven Athletic Center.
