Look ahead at Avon HS sports for the week of Feb. 7

Girls basketball:

Bacon Academy is 15-0 and ranked fourth in the state.

“We have three league games left, all against good teams but teams we can beat if we come to play,” Avon coach Frank Waters said. “Our other game is at undefeated Bacon Academy, the number four team in the state. That one will be a good test for us as we get closer to tournament play.”

The Falcons control their own destiny in the NCCC and will win the regular season title if they win out. Ellington is a game back and split the season series with Avon, with both teams winning at home.

 Indoor track:

The Falcons compete in the NCCC championship meet Monday at Hillhouse High School in New Haven.

Boys Basketball:

With a state tournament berth locked up, the Falcons will look to improve their seeding and enter postseason play on a roll as they finish up with six more games.

Avon will look to win consecutive games for the first time in nearly a month when it hosts East Windsor on Tuesday. The Falcons visit Suffield on Friday.

Avon defeated Suffield, 57-54, on Jan. 8 for its third win of the season.

Ice hockey:

The Wave have not had a game since Jan. 19 and face E.O. Smith-Tolland-Windham on Monday. The Wave also faces Farmington on Wednesday.

The Windsor-East Granby-Avon hockey team is 6-2 overall and ranked sixth in the state D III standings. The Wave is a perfect 4-0 this season against other D III teams.

Wrestling:

The Falcons (13-8, 6-0 NCCC) look to remain undefeated in conference play when they host Canton on Monday.
