"Hartford Sucks!"

I found myself the other day in a conversation with a group of folks talking about different US cities.  We talked about the good things about, for example, Portland, Providence, Baltimore, Boston, etc.  As all of this goodness was shared, one of the observers shouted out..."Hartford Sucks!"

The person went on to observe that "we have nothing" in this town!

Perhaps you've heard similar comments.  Perhaps you've made similar comments.

Interesting.  But true?

Having something is a matter of simple supply and demand.  Hartford has some fantastic assets.  The Bushnell.  The Hartford Symphony (if you haven't taken in a Carolyn Kuan HSO concert, you are really missing out!!).  The Talcott Mountain Festival.  Terrific museums.  The Rock Cats (yes, I said the Rock Cats).  Great restaurants.  Etc. Etc.  The question is, how much do we take advantage of them?  How much do we support them?  How many annual subscribers do we have among us?  How often do we grab a friend or another couple and take them along with us to enjoy a great show?

If we don't support these assets and invest in our town, how do we expect these assets to continue to be available?  How do we expect these assets and Hartford to thrive?

Someone once told me, "you get out of things what you put into them".  So true.  Invest in Hartford.  This place can really be great if we all do our little part (fun too!).
