“Start & Stop @ Stop & Shop” Food Drive

Start summer and stop hunger is the message from the Avon Volunteer Fire Department as it prepares to hold a “Start Summer, Stop Hunger” Food Drive on Saturday, June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Stop & Shop on the Avon/Simsbury line. At this time of year when families prepare to begin summer activities such as outdoor activities and vacations, food donations to local pantries begin to decrease. Volunteers from the AVFD will be on hand to collect food for the Avon Food Pantry located in the lower level of St. Ann Church at 289 Arch Road.

The Avon Food Pantry accepts any items. Suggestions include: cereal, cookies, tuna fish, pasta, peanut butter, jellies/jams, juices/juice boxes, bottled water, spaghetti sauce, canned fruit (except pineapple), granola bars, and cookies. The Food Pantry can also use paper supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, etc., as well as laundry detergent and other household items.

For more information, please call the AVFD at (860) 677-2644.
